The Role of the Federal CONNECT Gateway in Health Information Exchange

Presenters:

David Riley, CONNECT Initiative Lead, Office of the National Coordinator
Deanna Cagney, Director, Healthcare Products, Initiate Systems

The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) has developed a Federal CONNECT Gateway that provides an architecture for federal, state and local HHS agencies, regional health information organizations, physicians, IDNs and payers to exchange health information along the National Health Information Network (NHIN).

Many public and private healthcare organizations and communities are already operating or developing information exchanges to qualify for stimulus incentives, improve efficiencies within their own health system and to attract preferred providers.

How do these initiatives relate to the Federal CONNECT Gateway being launched by the ONC?

In this webinar David Riley, CONNECT Initiative Lead for the Federal Health Architecture Program in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT) and Deanna Cagney, Director. Healthcare Solutions from Initiate Systems will address the following topics:

  • Short and long term objectives and capabilities of the Federal CONNECT Gateway
  • How you can you connect an existing or private information exchange to Federal CONNECT in a secure and effective way
  • The role a patient registry plays when exchanging information within and outside your four walls
  • Defining your patient information management needs and evaluating how the open source components in the Federal CONNECT Gateway complement commercially available tools

Stimulus incentives are demanding that healthcare organizations of all types devise a plan for meaningful use and electronic exchange of information. This demand is escalating the movement toward interoperability that many organizations were already pursuing for efficiency and quality reasons. To exchange information with participants on the national health information network (NHIN), it is important to understand the requirements and options in relation to your existing or future plans for health information exchange.

Join us for this timely webinar and make sure your organization is ready for CONNECT.
