CHICAGO (October 5, 2009) – Scott Schumacher and Scott Ellard of Initiate Systems will be named TechAmerica Innovators in Software tomorrow at a TechAmerica Showcase reception and dinner in San Jose, California. Schumacher is senior vice president and chief scientist and Scott Ellard is chief solutions architect at Initiate Systems, Inc., a leader in data management solutions for information sharing and improved data quality.
Schumacher and Ellard received the award for their innovative work in database searching and their contribution to the tech industry and the field of master data management (MDM). The two created probabilistic searching, an alternative to deterministic searching. Probabilistic searching enables data searches that once took hours to finish in seconds. Schumacher developed an algorithm that directs a search using probabilistic principles. Rather than processing information like a machine with predetermined rules, Schumacher designed an algorithm that works intuitively. Ellard built a database index that works through experience rather than rote rules.
The 50th Annual TechAmerica Innovator Awards are bestowed upon eight innovators selected from nominated individuals. Award recipients represent seven industry segments including Computer and Equipment, Telecom Equipment, Consumer Electronics, Electronic Components, Software, CleanTech and Internet.
