Initiate Systems Launches Initiate® Catalyst Patient Registry for Independent Software Vendors

New Virtual Software Appliance Provides Entity Resolution and Search Capabilities as Embedded Technology for Health Information Exchange (HIE) Solutions

CHICAGO (July 30, 2009)Initiate Systems, Inc., a leader in data management solutions for the exchange of health information, announced today the launch of Initiate® Catalyst Patient Registry, a self-contained virtual software appliance to accelerate data interoperability for electronic medical records (EMR), portals, radiology information systems (RIS), picture archival communications systems (PACS) and other healthcare information exchange (HIE) solutions. The new software appliance provides independent software vendors (ISVs) and solution providers in healthcare with entity resolution and search capability that can be embedded in their information exchange applications and portals to improve patient care.

Initiate Catalyst Patient Registry is built on the Initiate Catalyst platform and leverages Initiate’s proven master data management (MDM) and entity resolution technology. Designed specifically for healthcare solutions, Initiate Catalyst Patient Registry enables ISVs and solution providers to integrate and aggregate data from multiple, heterogeneous sources within or across enterprise boundaries. The product is delivered as a virtual appliance package, offering Web services optimized for application integration and requiring no specific domain knowledge for support or deployment from an ISV’s or solution provider’s technical or research and development staff.

"Patient and clinical data is distributed across numerous applications and health information systems that have few reliable means for ensuring data consistency, quality and accuracy,” said Brian Vile, Initiate’s vice president, product strategy. “Initiate Catalyst Patient Registry transforms an inherently inconsistent and unpredictable environment by creating a solid data foundation for delivering the right information about the patient at the right time.”

“Initiate Catalyst Patient Registry is an out-of-the-box product that gives healthcare ISVs and solution providers a competitive edge by allowing them to deliver a single, cost-effective solution to a customer’s interoperability problem,” Vile added.

Initiate Catalyst Patient Registry is tuned specifically for the healthcare data domain and includes a patient algorithm in use at more than 100 integrated delivery networks (IDNs) and 30 national and regional health information exchanges (RHIOs).

He also noted these other benefits for healthcare ISVs and solution providers embedding Initiate Catalyst Patient Registry:

  • Accelerate data interoperability for EMR, RIS/PACS, HIE and portal solutions
  • Create a comprehensive and accurate view of patient data within the solution
  • Easily integrate proven and trusted patient identity resolution and search to deliver comprehensive patient information through a custom solution
  • Avoid expensive design, development and support costs to build and maintain reliable entity resolution and search technology
  • Offer capabilities immediately that customers may extend over time
  • Mitigate data quality and integration issues with reliable patient identification
