 Initiate® Interoperable Health Delivers Systemwide Patient View to Improve Efficiencies in Care Delivery and Physician Access

CHICAGO (March 4, 2009)Initiate Systems, Inc., a leader in master data management (MDM) solutions that enable the interoperable exchange of health information, today announced that UMass Memorial Health Care of Worcester, Mass., has selected Initiate® Interoperable Health software to provide a unified, systemwide view of more than 4.5 million patient records. UMass Memorial Health Care is the largest healthcare system in central and western Massachusetts with 13,500 employees and is the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

“Initiate Interoperable Health is a key part of our strategy to create enterprise-wide electronic medical records and a single clinical data repository from data located across numerous information technology environments and care facilities,” said George Brenckle, senior vice president and CIO, UMass Memorial Health Care. “We selected Initiate because of its proven track record of successfully linking large numbers of patient records from multiple disparate systems and for its ability to manage information about other entities like providers, members and organizations. The software will enable us to provide better patient care and improved physician access to medical records and help lay the groundwork for future initiatives to manage information about our provider community.”

With Initiate Interoperable Health at the foundation of its interoperability initiative, UMass Memorial Health Care will be able to provide physicians with anywhere access to complete patient medical records through the dbMotion™ Solution, an advanced interoperability and portal solution:

• To link clinical information throughout the enterprise from systems including Siemens, Meditech and GE/IDX;

• To achieve a systemwide view of patients and providers and their relationships;

• To provide a single source for patient demographic information including contact, payer source and primary care physician for use by clinical and administrative information systems; and,

• To pave the way to integrate with Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs).

“We are pleased that UMass Memorial selected Initiate Interoperable Health as its solution to aggregate identities across its vast network of systems to deliver patient-centric care,” said Lorraine Fernandes, vice president, healthcare industry ambassador, Initiate Systems. “Our solutions have been proven to help healthcare organizations streamline processes resulting in reduced costs, improved patient satisfaction and increases in physician referrals, and we’re looking forward to making the same impact with UMass Memorial Health Care.”
